Old guy whining (no m/c)

Desktop computer was dying, so went to the local shop a couple of days ago and picked up a refurb Lenovo/IBM. Had to go with Windows 7 instead of XP.

Why did anyone bother? After a day and a half of watching little green lines crawling across the screen as I've reloaded software I'm no further ahead (except, of course, that the machine is working) and the various OS "improvements" seem just to be "changes" making the few things I actually use the box for harder to find.

I'm tempted to dig out the IBM Selectric, the fax machine, and an abacus.

Not really. But WTF is with changing stuff just for the sake of changing it?
