Texting While Driving--An Encore *LINK*
I picked up a free 24 Toronto yesterday on my way downtown. Two interesting pieces were in it--one from B.C. where a woman who had been ticketed 14 times for distracted driving over a 5 year period had been ordered off the road--whatever that means.
The second was also from B.C. where the story stated:
"...police in Victoria B.C. ... released a Tweet message another driver sent, admitting 'I was trying to txt u...Ran into cop car...OMGGG.'
She and her daughter had non-life threatening injuries. The officer and his canine partner were unhurt.
Criticized for embarrassing her with a screen-grab photo of her message, however, police deleted the post, saying they intended public awareness, not to shame the texting driver."
I say, what's wrong with those Victoria cops--why shouldn't they "shame the texting driver"? The cops should have responded to that kind of criticism by saying--"You're goddamn right we embarrassed her, and it's a good thing too--maybe she'll think twice before texting and driving again."
Maybe starting to publicly shame those morons who text while driving might get their attention. Indeed, I think those who are convicted of texting while driving ought to be locked into pillories installed at the off or on ramps to the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway in Toronto and remain pilloried for the duration of a morning or evening rush hour.
